Sweating is our body?s normal way of cooling down. By sweating, the body releases moisture onto our skins, so that when the moisture evaporates, heat is taken away from our body. Therefore it is very natural to sweat when our body temperatures heat up, either during a workout, or under a stressful or anxious situation.

Excessive sweating, however, is a completely different case from normal sweating. Excessive sweating does not need to happen when the body temperature is high. In fact, it can happen anytime the nerves become overactive. It is important to understand that because of this difference between normal and excessive sweating, the causes of excessive sweating are entirely different to those of normal sweating as well.

Contrary to popular belief, studies have shown that the products that hyperhidrosis use to try to keep themselves sweat free, may actually be part of the cause of hyperhidrosis! Using shampoos, deodorants and soaps frequently on your palms or underarms can create a perfect environment for bacteria. These bacteria cause even more sweating, causing these people to use even more soap and deodorant.

Despite the above facts, you should, of course, still shower to keep your body clean. But you may not want to overdo it. The real way to cure hyperhidrosis is to find your cause of hyperhidrosis (which are different for every person), and then look for solutions to fight the problem. Using antiperspirants and deodorants are only a temporary way of treatment, since they only deal with the effects of excessive sweating.
